Two pilots who fell asleep in the cockpit as their plane was due to land have had their licences suspended.
The pilots were in charge of a short mid-morning flight for Hawaii's Go airline from Honolulu to Hilo, when they failed to respond to nearly a dozen calls from air traffic controllers over a 17-minute period.
In recordings obtained by the Associated Press, the controller is heard repeatedly trying to contact the pilots. He talks to the pilot of another Go flight in the hope of reaching Flight 1002. "I'm worried he might be in an emergency situation," the controller says.
