The discovery of what is thought to be a secret opening used by actors during medieval performances in St Just has sparked excitement.
A senior archaeologist has described the opening, discovered in the hedge of the Plen-an-Gwary open air theatre, as a significant find.
According to medieval folklore, an opening of this kind - called a Devil's Spoon - was a feature of Plen-an-Gwary in Cornwall.
The opening was the entrance to an underground tunnel in which the character of the Devil would crawl during performances to spring up from various openings to cure sinners of the errors of their ways.
